Supply Priests
& Available Non-Stipendiary (Diocesan) Priests
as of 05/2008
Non-stipendiary diocesan priests (formerly “respite”) cover a congregation when its pastor is away or ill. Congregations are expected to reimburse the priest’s travel expenses at the Federal rate(50.5˘ per mile in 2008) and overnight lodging where necessary. The current diocesan standard honorarium is $100 per main Sunday service or funeral (plus $50 for graveside); $100 for graveside only; $25 for each additional Sunday and/or weekday service; $250, wedding. Non-parochial and retired priests may supply; however, many have some limits on how far they should drive. Assistant priests in your area may also be available. +HIL
