The Right Reverend Henry Irving Louttit
Ninth Bishop of Georgia

Bishop Louttit was consecrated Bishop of Georgia in Savannah in January 1995. His entire ministry as a priest has been spent in the Diocese of Georgia serving Trinity Church, Statesboro and then Christ Church, Valdosta. He serves on the Board of Regents of the University of the South, chairing the Regent’s Committee on the School of Theology. He is the past president of the Georgia Christian Council (Ecumenical meeting place for the major churches in our state), and has served on the Board of Trustees at Virginia Theological Seminary.

The Bishop is committed to the ministry of the people of God, which is all baptized persons, each in the service of Jesus Christ using their gifts to share his love and healing in our world. He is excited by the participation of our youth and by our reaching beyond ourselves to share the gospel with people who speak Korean and Spanish in the diocese and beyond.

He and his wife, Jan, have three grown daughters and five grandchildren. All of his children are involved in parishes: Katie is a member of St. Gregory’s in Athens, Diocese of Atlanta; Amy, Christ Church, Monticello, Diocese of Florida; and his middle daughter, Susan, is the priest at St. James’, Mooresville, Diocese of North Carolina. Her husband, Jack, is the Rector of St. Paul’s, Fort Mill, in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina.
