HOMILETICS COMPETENCIES

POSTED AUG. 12, 2008

Goal:  To introduce beginning homilists to the art and practice of preaching so that they may prepare, write, and deliver a sermon with clarity and confidence. Those completing the Homiletics certificate will demonstrate the ability to

  • Draft a sermon, with attention to content, structure, and strategies; and
  • Polish and present a sermon, with attention to clarity, personal style, and audience.

In addition, workshop discussion will include

  • Preparing spiritually to give a sermon; and
  • Locating resources for background material.

Methodology:  This workshop will include lecture, group work, oral presentations, exercises, and individual conferences.
