SCRIPTURE ASSIGNMENT FOR OCT. 17-18, 2008

Assume that you are giving a five-minute homily on one of the following two assignments. But also assume that you will be called upon to discuss both. So . . . begin by filling out the basic handout for each.  CLICK HERE FOR THE HANDOUT.

The point is to think through the questions on the handout. Then, if you want to study more, look at the “hints” below each reading.

1.         1. Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch, whose day we celebrate on Oct. 17th.

 Hints:

·         See the entry for October 17th in Lesser Feasts and Fasts.

·         Go to entries on  http://www.io.com/~kellywp/LesserFF/Oct/Ignatius.html and http://satucket.com/lectionary/Ignatius_Antioch.htm.

2.      2. Luke 9:28-36 (the Transfiguration)

Hints:

·         I’ll bring my copies of  the  Interpreter’s Bible (on CD) and The New Jerome Bible Commentary to Ocmulgee for you to see & use.

·         You might want to try  “Comments” (http://montreal.anglican.org/comments/archive/clnt2m.shtml) and “Clippings” (http://montreal.anglican.org/comments/archive/clnt2l.shtml) – you’ll need to scroll all the way down for the Luke reading. You can browse what’s online at http://www.textweek.com/mtlk/lk9a.htm and elsewhere, but DON’T LOSE SIGHT OF YOUR OWN IDEAS.
