Fall Clergy Conference October 14-16

Dwight Zsheile The Fall Clergy Conference of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia will be held at Honey Creek from October 14 to 15. The main speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Dwight Zscheile, an Assistant Professor of Congregational Mission and Leadership at Luther Seminary and the author of People of the Way: Renewing Episcopal Identity (Morehouse, 2012) and co-author of The Missional Church in Perspective: Mapping Trends and Shaping the Conversation (Baker Academic, 2011). He also serves as an associate rector at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.

People of the WayAs Zscheile (pronounced “shyly”) asks in People of the Way, “If the Episcopal Church is no longer the Church of the Establishment and the benefactor model of church is dead, what is the heart of Episcopal mission and identity?” In answering, he draws on multiple streams of Anglican thought and practice, plus contemporary experience to craft a vision for mission that addresses the church’s post-establishment, post-colonial context. He also brings to this his own experience of growing up in a secular home with no contact at all with the stories of the Christian faith. As an adult convert, he has a deep passion for equipping leaders to tell the Christian story in ways that touch the lives of people who have not heard it. He will address directly the roles of deacons and priests in this post-Christian mission field.

Clergy Conference Schedule
Dwight Zscheile As in recent conferences, we will begin Sunday evening with supper at 5:30 p.m. for those who can be present. Bishop Benhase will have informal time for discussion starting at 7 p.m. where we will discuss any topic clergy want to address (other than the same sex blessings which will be the exclusive topic Monday at 4-5:30 p.m.). Morning Prayer and Eucharists will offer us time for communal worship on Monday and Tuesday. There will be free time Monday 1-4 p.m. during which the Bishop will be available for appointments. The conference will conclude Tuesday by 3 p.m.
