The Rt. Rev. Rodney R. Michel, Retired Suffragan Bishop of Long Island, began assisting Bishop Henry Louttit with his visitations in the winter of 2007.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska (BS, 1965) and Seabury-Western Theological Seminary (M. Div., 1970), Bishop Michel served in Gordon and Scottsbluff, Nebraska, his home diocese, for twelve years before accepting a call to Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he served for five.  In 1987 he was called to Long Island to be Canon Pastor of the Cathedral.  From there he was called as Rector of St. Peter's in Bay Shore, New York. He was elected in 1997 to be Suffragan Bishop of Long Island. Bishop Michel chairs the Committee For Bishop Visitors To Our Episcopal Monastic Orders.

From his years in the Midwest, Bishop Michel understands long distances, so he’s right at home traversing the Diocese of Georgia. And he enjoys smaller congregations, which he says, he experienced both in the Midwest and on Long Island.

Bishop Michel and his wife, Marie, will be in residence in Savannah from September through March, and will be involved in our diocesan life in a number of different ways.
